URSA Straps was founded in 2015 by UK based Sound Mixer Simon Bysshe and his partner Laura Smith who works as a Costume Designer.

Laura & Simon began making URSA Straps by hand in a garage in Chiswick, London. They produced many prototypes from as early as 2011 which Simon tested out on set while working as a Boom Operator.

After surging demand we scaled up production with the aid of two highly experienced manufacturing firms in Northern England.

Since their launch in 2016 URSA has diversified into radio mic consumables such as URSA Foamies, Soft Circles, Moleskin Tape, MiniMounts, Belt Pouches & much more.

Talent LAV Packs. Each Zipper Pack contains a variety of Mounts, Fur Covers, moleskin tapes, a DPA Microphone and an URSA Strap.

These ensure that straps, mics & mounts are used only by the allocated talent. At the end of the day the kit is returned to be washed & cleaned.

Evan designed this box as an impromptu Sound Cart - highly portable & big enough for a whole lot of kit.

In the top left lid are Lav Mic Consumables : @ursastraps , sticky tapes, Joes Sticky Stuff, Sound Guys Lav Drops, moleskin, foamies, batteries and loads more useful items.

The clear fishing tackle boxes can all come out and be grippered to the top of the case so everything can be easily accessed while wiring up. Also if you need to move it in a hurry they stay put 😊

In the topright lid are Manfrotto magic arms, clamps, multitools, mints & gum to stay fresh on set 😊

In the belly of the thing Evan stores his @rycoteuk suspensions, @ktekpro harness, XLRs, mics and extra expendables (gripper etc). If you want to get hold of one of these toolboxes you can find them on Amazon by searching for ‘Keter Masterloader 241008’. Big thanks to Ben Wiffen (@lutze1983) for sharing these pics of his new Radio Mic Box 😍

Ben works as a sound recordist on a variety of live musical shows which often require head mounted mics - swipe to the final image to see his double @dpa_microphones 4060 rig for hiding under the hair.
The @dymolabels maker was well used here. Ben told us he took inspiration from our video with Tom Williams of @philosophy_audio for the gripper labels on the lid of the case. He is also working on a battery charger box, but Toms charging box is a pretty hard act to follow... 😋

Part of his work involves training drama students about the specialism of sound, the way sound is recorded on set, best techniques for radio mic placements and the value of good sound to enhance performance.

Simon from URSA dropped by to see their amazing facility and take some photos of their sound setup. We hope to build on this and possibly collaborate on some workshops with their theatre students on the ways artists and sound can collaborate to get the best results.

Simon & Laura from URSA were at the @amps_uk_sound Sustaining Members Show yesterday at the @nftsfilmtv in Beaconsfield.

At the event the sound team from Oscar Winning feature ‘1917’ were in attendance to receive their AMPS Award for Best Sound for a Feature Film!
